Domain name
A domain name is the name that identifies a website. For example, in the URL https://www.ssl247.co.uk/, the domain name is ssl247.co.uk. Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain it belongs to. For example: .gov (government agencies), .org (non-profit organizations), .com (commercial business), .ca (Canada)… A domain name is used to identify an IP address . Because the Internet is based on IP addresses, not domain names, every Web server requires a Domain Name System (DNS) to translate domain names into IP addresses.
Domain Name System (DNS)
Domain Name System (or Service or Sever) is an internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. For instance, the domain name www.examplessl247.com might translate to 198.101.212.5.
Domain spoofing
Domain spoofing is a manipulation of the domain name system to associate a legitimate web address with an imposter or otherwise malicious website. Used to perpetrate phishing and other types of attack, the user is sent to the imposter website with little or no warning.
Domain Validation (DV)
There are three types of SSL certificates, with differing validation methods. These are domain, organisation and extended validation certificates. DV is the quickest and simplest type suitable for testing, internal or non-sensitive information. Compare SSL validation types.
DSA Encryption
DSA or Digital Signature Algorithm is an alternative method to RSA encryption and will become available in November 2013. It offers the same level of encryption, but makes it easier to keep up with governmental requirements as it is FIPS-certified (Federal Information Processing Standard) and was created by NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology. You can combine RSA and DSA encryption to increase your ecosystems reach across your entire client base. For more information click here.
